OKLAHOMA CITY — If the best team in basketball cruised to a record 73 wins and redefined how the game is played through a breathtaking regular season, what words describe the bunch that left them breathless?
Fast and strong. Quick and deadly. Confident and cocky and sizzling and snarling and soaring.
Or more simply: Thunder.
It's not merely inhaling the jet fume backwash of the dismissive 133-105 fly-bythat OKC laid on the Warriors in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals that is intoxicating. It's drinking in the entire body of work since the playoffs began and seems to only be getting stronger.
Pick a play, any play. The coiled steel that is Russell Westbrook widening a mere sliver in the defense through the sheer force of his will to get all the way to the basket. The long, lethal straight razor that is Kevin Durant slicing to fill a lane on the fast break, catching a lob pass and splashing home a slam dunk that rattles the backboard and the upper balcony inside Chesapeake Energy Arena. Serge Ibaka making a rejection with the cold heart of an IRS agent. Steven Adams for the second straight game having the family jewels treated unceremoniously and simply shaking it off.
